Kleinschwabhausen is a municipality in the south of the Weimarer Land district .

geography

Kleinschwabhausen is an agricultural village that lies between Weimar and Jena. The municipality belongs to the Mellingen administrative community , which has its administrative seat in the municipality of Mellingen .

Village church

history

Schwabhausen was first mentioned around the year 800. In 1357 the village was called Windischen Suabehusen by the provost zu Kapellendorf. In 1378 the place was called Wenigen Suabehusen and in 1455 for the first time Clein Swobehussen.

During the Thirty Years' War the place was spared from the plague and other epidemics, in the spring of 1637 Hatzfeld cavalry soldiers burned down 18 houses and devastated the place.

From the beginning of the 19th century, the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and after 1945 with the state of Thuringia became part of the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR . Since 1990 the place belongs to the newly founded state of Thuringia.

Attractions

The small village church from the 13th century is well worth seeing.

Memorials

In the local cemetery , a communal grave with a memorial stone commemorates eight unknown concentration camp prisoners who were murdered by SS men on a death march from the Buchenwald concentration camp in the spring of 1945 .
