Oetter is a municipality in the south of the Weimarer Land district and part of the Mellingen administrative community .
geography
The place lies in a meander of the Ilm on the federal highway 87 between Bad Berka and Weimar . The Kaitsch rises to the south . The Ilm valley has carved its way deep into the shell limestone in the vicinity of Oetter, creating a scenic valley.
history
The place is mentioned for the first time in 1376 in a document from the knight Rudolf von Kühnhausen for Berka Monastery. Oetter suffered badly from constant floods. From the beginning of the 19th century, the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and after 1945 with the state of Thuringia became part of the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR .

It lies on a mountain spur to the right of the Ilm. A well-preserved rampart is still preserved to the west on the plateau that delimits the area. Finds point to the Neolithic and the Late Hallstatt or early La Tène period.
