Paul Lehfeldt

Paul Lehfeldt (born February 9, 1848 in Berlin ; † July 2, 1900 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German art historian .

Life

As the son of the publisher Joseph Lehfeldt (1804-1858), Paul Lehfeldt graduated from the Friedrichwerdersche Gymnasium in Berlin in 1867 . From 1867 to 1871 he studied art history and archeology in Bonn (with Anton Springer ) and in Berlin (with Karl Friederichs and Ernst Curtius ). He also put in 1873 at the Berlin Academy of Architecture , the Bauführerprüfung from. In 1871 he obtained his doctorate in Halle. phil. and in 1876 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer at the Berlin Building Academy . In 1884 he was appointed as the successor to Friedrich Klopfleisch (1831–1898) curator of the art monuments of Thuringia . His official title "Conservator of the Governments of Thuringia" stems from the fact that Thuringia was still divided into eight small states (duchies and principalities). Mainly he was concerned with the recording of art monuments, especially as head and editor of the corpus work on the Thuringian art monuments. He also published numerous articles on this topic in specialist journals. For his publications he was appointed royal titular professor by the Prussian minister of culture. He was a member of the Berlin Architecture Association and the Archaeological Society and, in 1884, a founding member of the Berlin " Society of the Casual ".

His final resting place is after he was reburied from the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Berlin on the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
