Kurt Friedrich Otto Albrecht von Kessel (born July 3, 1862 in Oberglauche , † May 11, 1921 in Breslau ) was Upper President of Silesia from 1920 .

Life

Kurt was the son of Albrecht von Kessel (1832–1895) and his wife Anna, born von Reinersdorff-Paczenski and Tenczin (1842–1891).

Career

Kessel studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . In 1882 he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . In the same year he became an active cavalry officer in the Prussian army . In 1895 he retired from service as a prime lieutenant and took over his father's manor Oberglauche in the Breslau district.

From 1899 to 1918 Kessel sat as a member of the constituency of Breslau 2 (Militsch, Trebnitz) in the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the Conservative Party . From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the German National People's Party in the Prussian constitutional assembly . During the Kapp Putsch in 1920, putschists installed him as senior president for Silesia.

family

Kessel married Theodora von Bethmann-Hollweg (* 1871) in Ronowo on September 30, 1891. The daughter Anna (* 1892) and the sons Theodor (* 1894), Friedrich (1896–1975) and Albrecht (1902–1976) emerged from the marriage. Elisabeth Crodel was his niece.
