The 1997 Kremlin Cup was a tennis carpet court tournament for women at the Olimpijski in Moscow . The indoor tournament was part of the 1997 WTA Tour and took place from October 27th to November 2nd, 1997.

In the double final, an unusual incident occurred in the first set when the score was 3: 5 and 30:30. Assuming that she had previously served a net, Caroline Vis deliberately hit Natallja Swerawa's return out of bounds . However, the referee declared Vis's service to be compliant. When Vis insulted the referee, she disqualified the Dutchwoman and her partner Yayuk Basuki . Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and Natallja Swerawa won the title.
