Zytek Systems was founded in 1982 with the aim of developing and selling motor electronics for international motorsport. The company made a name for itself with the first electronic engine control for Formula 1 . In the mid-1990s, Zytek began supplying BMW Motorsport with engine electronics for their four- and six-cylinder racing engines. The breakthrough came in 1995 when the FIA commissioned Zytek with the maintenance and delivery of the engines developed by Judd for the Formula 3000 racing series worldwide. The limitation to only one engine supplier noticeably reduced the costs of this racing series and also made it possible for teams with smaller budgets to take part in the championships. The contract between the FIA and Zytek ran from 1994 to the end of the series in 2004. Zytek found a new customer in the A1 Grand Prix series , for which 58 racing engines including electronics were supplied for the racing vehicles.

Zytek has also been involved in international motorsport as a racing team since 2002. Allowed to stand at Reynard build one car LMP chassis for one. The Zytek 04S made its debut in the ALMS in 2004 . The vehicle has since been revised several times and is used in 2007 as Zytek 06S and Zytek 07S in the LMS and ALMS by private teams. In 2005 the works team won the 1000 km races at the Nürburgring , Spa-Francorchamps and the 4-hour race in Laguna Seca .

Today Zytek is able to provide a complete package of chassis, motor, wiring and control electronics for almost every automotive racing formula.

After Zytek Engineering's sister company - Zytek Automotive - was completely sold to Continental AG in 2014, Zytek Engineering was renamed Gibson Technology at the end of 2014 . The founder, Bill Gibson, continued to own the company.
