Kumho Tire , also known as Kumho Tire , is a South Korean tire manufacturer with headquarters in Seoul . The company was founded in 1960 and is part of the South Korean Kumho Asiana Group . With over 11,000 employees worldwide, Kumho Tire mainly develops, produces and sells car tires for cars, vans and trucks.
The company's European administrative headquarters are in Offenbach am Main .
history
Kumho Tire was founded as Samyang Tire Co. of Incheon Park in 1960 because of difficulties in sourcing quality tires for his Gwangju Transport business and decided to produce his own tires. Five years later, the company opened its first overseas store in Thailand . In 1971 the first production plant in Songjeong, Korea, went into operation. In 1976, Kumho Tire produced over 1 million tires per year for the first time.
In the 1990s, Kumho Tire established research and development centers in Europe and the USA and began researching racing tires for use in motorsport.
