Fabio Babini (born November 3, 1969 in Faenza ) is an Italian racing driver .

Career

Babini gained his first experience in racing in the early 1990s in the Italian Formula 3 championship , before he switched to GT and sports car racing in 1995.

He has been a regular driver in the FIA GT Championship and the American Le Mans Series since the early 2000s . In 2000 he won the GT2 class in a Porsche 996 GT3 R at the Daytona 24-hour race and has since achieved a wealth of class victories in both racing series. In 2001, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he and his teammates Gabrio Rosa and Luca Drudi drove a Porsche 911 GT3 to sixth place overall, the best overall ranking for a GT2 racing car since this class was introduced at Le Mans. As remarkable as this racing appearance by Babini at the Sarthe in 2001 was, it was short in 2006. On the first lap he lost control of his Aston Martin DBR9 at the second Porsche corner and crashed into the crash barriers on the left. Since the Aston Martin could no longer be started, the team had to give up the race after almost ten kilometers.
