Andrea Bertolini (born December 1, 1973 in Sassuolo ) is an Italian racing car driver who became GT1 world champion together with Michael Bartels in 2010 .

He started karting at the age of 11 . He finished second in the Italian championship, won national and CIAK Cup championships and finished second in the Italian 125 championship in 2000. At the age of 19, Andrea Bertolini became a test driver for Ferrari's road vehicles . Since 2009 he has also been available to the racing team in this role.

In 2001 he drove a Porsche 996 GT3-R in the GT2 class of the FIA GT championship . In 2002 and 2003 he competed with the JMB Racing team in a Ferrari 360 Modena . In 2004 Bertolini moved to the Giesse Squadra Corse Team , where he also drove a 360 Modena. He finished second in the championship and received the “Driver Performance of the Year” award.

Maserati

In the second half of 2004 Bertolini and Mika Salo drove the GT1 Maserati MC12 he helped develop for the Maserati AF Corse team in four races of the FIA ​​GT Championship. The duo won in Oschersleben and Zhuhai .

Together with the former Formula 1 racing driver Karl Wendlinger , Bertolini took part in the FIA ​​GT Championship in an MC12 from JMB Racing in 2005 and took fourth place in the GT1 drivers' championship. He also drove the entire season of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) for Risi Competizione , although the MC12 was not homologated there and therefore not eligible for points.

From 2006 - with an interruption in 2007 , when he drove with Scuderia Playteam Sarafree - until 2010 inclusive, Bertolini drove alongside Michael Bartels in the Vitaphone Racing Team with a Maserati MC12. In 2006 , 2008 and 2009 Bertolini and Bartels won the FIA ​​GT Championship. In a guest start for Doran Racing in the ALMS, Bertolini achieved pole position in Road America and was instrumental in securing second place in the GT1 category at that race.

Bartels and Bertolini also won the newly announced FIA GT1 World Championship and gave the Maserati MC12 the last title before the vehicle was no longer approved for the GT1 category due to the non-extended homologation.

In 2011 Bertolini won the International Superstars Series with a Maserati Quattroporte for the Swiss team . In 2010 and 2011 he also took part in selected races of the Trofeo Maserati Europe, some of which he was able to win.

Ferrari

Bertolini had already made a guest appearance in the ALMS for JMB Racing in 2005 , but Bertolini has been racing regularly with Ferraris since 2011. In 2012 he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship and in Le Mans together with Olivier Beretta . Bertolini competed again at Le Mans with JMW Motorsport in 2013 .

Bertolini has been active in the Blancpain Endurance Series since 2011. In 2011 he drove a race for Vita4one , in 2012 and 2013 regularly for AF Corse . In 2012, he finished second in the Pro-Am Cup, despite skipping two of the six races of the season.
