With a motorsport homologation ( French homologation "licensing, accreditation, type test"; ancient Greek ὁμολογεῖν homologein "agree, agree"; here in the sense of "the rules match") competing cars and will race tracks of the national and international sports authorities captured and described in a homologation sheet . In many motorsport categories, homologation is the formal requirement in order to be able to participate in competitions. The manufacturer has to prove the construction of a certain number of vehicles. It is not necessary that these are all sold.
There are also homologations for safety-relevant assemblies, such as fire extinguishers , seat belts , vehicle headlights , roll bars and parts of the personal driver's equipment such as overalls , helmets , shoes and gloves, fireproof underwear or the so-called HANS system .
In motorcycle and car racing, in near-series classes, such as the Superbike World Championship , every manufacturer must also produce street-legal machines of a model in order to receive homologation for the relevant racing series.
