Jonny Kane
Jonny Kane (born May 14, 1973 in Comber ) is a British racing driver .
Racing career
The Northern Irishman Jonny Kane began his career after starting out in karting in 1991 in Formula Vauxhall . In the same year and the following season he won the overall ranking of the Irish Formula Ford Championship . Until the end of the 1996 racing season, Kane remained successful in series of these two racing formulas. In 1994 he secured overall victory in the European Formula Ford Championship and in 1995 in Formula Vauxhall. He was at Paul Stewart Racing team-mate of Juan Pablo Montoya , who finished the championship in third place.
In 1996 he switched to Formula 3 . He was also successful in races with this racing formula. In 1997 he became British Formula 3 champion . After a few races in the international Formula 3 championship in 1998 and two seasons at the Indy Lights , Kane switched to GT and sports car racing in 2001 .
Kane received a work contract with MG and stayed with the British automaker's racing team for two years . The MG-Lola EX257 was a fast but prone to breakdown racing vehicle. In both races at the Le Mans 24-hour race , Kane retired after a technical defect. In 2001 there was no oil pressure; In 2002 there was a gearbox damage. After his two years at Spyker Cars, he participated in the Embassy Racing project with the Embassy WF01 in 2008 .
From 2010 Kane was a team member at Strakka Racing . The most successful phase of his sports car era to date followed. 2010 Le Mans Series he won with the HPD ARX-01c and the partners Nick Leventis and Danny Watts that the European Le Mans Series scoring 1,000-km race at the Hungaroring . This means that an LMP2 prototype won against the competition from LMP1 cars. In the same year he achieved his best position so far in the final classification of Le Mans with the fifth final. The best place in the Sebring 12 Hours was finishing sixth in 2003 .
