Philip Collin
Philip Collin (born May 2, 1963 in Chicago ) is a retired American racing driver .
Racing career
Philip Collin began his driving career in the early 1990s. After starting out in club races and regional sports car races , he made his first international appearance in 1996. At the 24-hour race in Daytona he was one of a five-man team that finished 33rd in the final classification in a Porsche 911 C4S AWD , even though the Porsche retired after 428 laps with a damaged clutch . Also in the 12-hour race at Sebring in 1996 Collin was at the start. He reported a Porsche 911, which he drove with Kevin Buckler and Joe Cogbill . The trio retired early due to engine failure. In Sebring he achieved the first place in the top field of a sports car race the following year . Together with Martin Snow and Peter Kitchak , he finished twelfth overall. The emergency vehicle was a Porsche 911 GT2 .
In 2000 he played his first full season in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . After the end of the United States Road Racing Championship in 1999, this racing series was established as the successor championship. Collin drove a Porsche 996 GT3-R for The Racer's Group , Kevin Buckler's racing team. The best result of the season was fifth place in the 150-mile Lime Rock race (winners Ron Johnson and Terry Borcheller in a Saleen - Ford Mustang ). The consistently good placements in the GTU class ensured fourth place in the annual ranking of this racing class (behind Mike Fitzgerald , Darren Law and Kevin Buckler).
He was unable to match the success of 2000 in the next few years. In 2003 he switched to the American Le Mans Series and drove in the European Le Mans Series until the end of his career after the end of the 2007 racing season . His best place in the Le Mans 24 Hours was finishing 15th in the 2004 debut race .
