Career in motorsport

Monopostor racing

Christophe Tinseau began his career in the French Formula Renault championship . In 1990 he drove a Martini MK59 and finished the championship in eleventh place. In the following season he only had to admit defeat Olivier Couvreur and became runner-up. In 1992 he took the logical step for many drivers into the national Formula 3 championship . His second full season ended in 1993 behind Didier Cottaz , Guillaume Gomez and Elton Julian in fourth place.

During this phase of his career, Tinseau was also registered for several races in the German Formula 3 championship and was also involved several times in the Formula 3 race of the Macau Grand Prix . 1994 was his last year in Formula 3. The French championship was marked by the duel between Tinseau and Jean-Philippe Belloc . After three race wins and a total of eight podium finishes, he had to admit defeat to Belloc by seven points in the final classification.

The next career step led into Formula 3000 . The 1996 Formula 3000 season was his first and only in this racing series; Sixth place in the overall ranking. In 1997 he moved to North America. A full season in the Indy Lights , which was then driven as part of the Champ Car series , did not bring the desired success and Tinseau returned to Europe after only one year in the United States .

Sports car racing

In 1998, the Frenchman turned to sports car racing and received a contract with DAMS . This year DAMS fielded a Panoz Esperante GTR-1 in the FIA GT Championship . Tinseau made his sports car debut at the Le Mans 24-hour race . Team partners were the former Formula 1 driver Éric Bernard and the American Johnny O'Connell . A gearbox failure stopped the trio's ambitions prematurely after driving 236 laps. He had the first finish at the 1000 km race in Suzuka , where he was fifth overall; Partners this time O'Connell and Franck Lagorce .

He celebrated his first of a total of five overall wins in 1999 when he and Jean-Marc Gounon won the 2.30-hour race in Brno . In 2000, DAMS became one of the teams for the newly developed Cadillac Northstar LMP . Great expectations were placed on racing, but the LMP1 prototype never really met them. In the three years of his use, Tinseau was only able to reach the top three podium with the racing car model. He finished the 2.45-hour race at Mosport in 2001 with partner Emmanuel Collard in third place. The best place in Le Mans was ninth in 2002 .

After the end of the Cadillac program, Tinseau drove for Noël del Bello for two years and was awarded a contract with Henri Pescarolo's team in 2007 . With it, he returned in 2007 also return to Le Mans. He finished the 2009 Le Mans Series in second overall after winning the Asian Le Mans Series for Sora Racing in the spring of that year , winning the series' inaugural race, the 1000 km race in Okayama .

Until the end of the 2012 season, Tinseau was mainly involved in Le Mans, then he retired from professional racing. He returned to the racetracks in 2015 as a partner of the severely disabled Frédéric Sausset .
