Elton Julian
Elton Julian (born August 16, 1974 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ) is an American car racing driver and racing team owner who also competed with an Ecuadorian driver's license.
Racing career
Monopostosport
Elton Julian was born in the Canary Islands and grew up in Ecuador and California . He started karting at the age of 13 . In 1990 he attended the Skip Barber Racing School and then competes in Formula Ford . He competed in various racing series, won four championships and celebrated 36 successes in 49 races.
In 1991 he came to Europe for the first time and drove two races in the British Formula 3 championship . In 1992, a full season followed in this championship, which he finished eighth overall (master Gil de Ferran ahead of Philippe Adams and Kelvin Burt ). In 1993 he switched to the French Formula 3 Championship and finished the racing year behind Didier Cottaz and Guillaume Gomez as third in the championship.
In 1994 he signed a test driver contract with the Formula 1 racing team Tourtel Larrousse F1 . With the Larrousse LH94 , he was half a second faster than regular driver Érik Comas on his fastest lap in the first test drives at Circuit Paul Ricard . A hoped-for contract as a regular driver for the 1995 Formula 1 World Championship did not materialize because the Larrousse team ceased racing at the beginning of the season due to insufficient funding. Julian, who had expected a driver contract, had to do without monoposto trips for a year . In 1996 he was involved in the International Formula 3000 Championship . He finished the season with two points in 13th place overall (master Jörg Müller ).
After a test in Formula Nippon and two races in the Atlantic Championship in 1998, the monopost races ended.
Sports car racing
After the failure of the Formula 1 plans in 1995, Elton Julian switched to the sports car scene . This year, however, there were only two races. At the Daytona 24-hour race , he drove a Ferrari 333SP together with Gianfranco Brancatelli , Massimo Sigala and Fabrizio Barbazza to eighth place in the final standings. In 1995 he drove the fastest race lap with a time of 1.58.029 minutes and achieved 22nd place in the final classification with partners Barbazza and Sigala.
Between 1999 and 2004 Julian does not enter car races. In 2005 he returned to the racetracks and made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Together with Jan Lammers and John Bosch , he reached seventh place overall in Dome S101 . In the following years it was repeatedly entered in races in the American and European Le Mans Series . In 2010 he was third overall in the LMPC class of the American Le Mans Series. In 2011 he reached this position in the final classification of the FLM class of the Le Mans Series. In 2012 he played a full season in the newly created FIA World Endurance Championship .
He had his last outings as a driver in 2015 in the Blancpain Endurance Series .
DragonSpeed
In 2007 Elton Julian founded his own racing team with DragonSpeed , which has since been active in the American Le Mans Series, the Blancpain Endurance Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship , among others .
