John "Skip" Barber (born November 16, 1936 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a former American automobile racing driver .
Career
Skip, actually John Barber, got into motorsport relatively late. He began his career in the US Formula Ford Championship, in which he participated from 1969 to 1970. In 1970 he just won the championship. In Europe, it was completely unknown when he with a 1971 Gene Mason Racing used March 711 in the Formula 1 came. He made his debut at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort . He started from position 24 and could not classify. Two more launches followed in 1971. He participated, also unsuccessfully, in the races in Canada and the US Grand Prix in Watkins Glen .
The only countable success this year was a sixth place in a race in Hockenheim that was not part of the world championship , the Jochen-Rindt Trophy. In 1972 he again took part in two races of the Formula 1 World Championship, in Canada and the USA . There he also achieved his best result in a world championship run with rank 16.
After his retirement, he opened a racing school in the USA, which is now considered one of the best in the world. His connections to the Swedish carmaker Saab also enabled the establishment of its own racing series - the Barber Dodge Pro series .
