Michael Vergers (born June 24, 1969 in Alkmaar ) is a Dutch racing driver .

Racing career

Michael Vergers began his career like so many other drivers in karting . Vergers drove kart races in Spain from the age of 14. In 1984 he was the Spanish Southern Junior Champion and in 1986 fourth in the Spanish National Championship . After completing a driver training course at the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School in 1987, he entered monoposto racing in 1988 . He first drove Formula Ford races and won the RAC Formula Ford Championship in 1990 . Then he switched to the Formula Opel Lotus . In 1992 he was ninth there in the Euroseries. In 1993 he went to the United States and competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series for two years . Until the end of the 2008 racing season, Vergers remained active in Formula Ford and, from 1996, drove parallel races in the British GT Championship.

In the 2000s, Vergers shifted his commitment to sports car racing . These engagements led, among other things, to the V8-Star in the European and American Le Mans Series . In 2006 he and Juan Barazi won the overall standings in the LMP2 class of the European Le Mans Series.

Michael Vergers competed several times in the Sebring 12-hour race and the Le Mans 24-hour race . In September 2005 he lapped the North Loop of the Nürburgring with a UK road legal Radical SR8 in 6: 56.010 minutes. Back then the fastest lap time for a street-legal car on the Nürburgring.
