The tenth 24-hour race of Le Mans , the 10 e Grand Prix d'Endurance les 24 Heures du Mans , also 24 Heures du Mans, Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans , took place from June 18 to 19, 1932 on the Circuit des 24 Heures at Le Mans .

run

Before the race in 1932, the route was fundamentally changed, so that the current layout followed the course that still exists today. The old Pontlieue section was completely bypassed, and new passages were built especially according to the wishes of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest . The “Esses” and the “Tertre Rouge” have become the most popular parts of the track with spectators over the years and thousands of pictures adorn international publications about the 24-hour race, showing the vehicles either entering or exiting the Esses . The route remained completely unchanged until 1967 . This was followed by adaptations that became necessary over the years to ensure more safety for drivers and spectators.

Of the 26 participants, seven teams competed with Alfa Romeo vehicles . Including last year's winners Earl Howe and Tim Birkin in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300LM and two works cars . Birkin had given his old Bentley Blower to the Frenchman Jean Trévoux , who had an accident with the car on the first lap at Maison Blanche. Since the car could not be salvaged, it formed a kind of chicane that was fatal for some drivers during the night. Ferdinando Minoia lost the lead that night when he drove into the wreck and had to give up. Even the only Citroën that competed in Le Mans didn't get very far: after only two laps the magneto went out and the car had to be parked.

After Tim Birkin's retirement due to cylinder damage, the way was clear for the private Alfa Romeo, which was driven by Raymond Sommer and Luigi Chinetti . The last failure was a Bugatti Type 55 , which was driven by the Polish nobleman Stanisław Czaykowski and the French racing veteran Ernest Friederich . For Luigi Chinetti it was the first victory when he first started.

Odette Siko finished fourth overall in her Alfa Romeo and only missed the podium by one lap. It is the best position a woman has ever achieved in Le Mans.
