Attilio Marinoni
Attilio Marinoni (* 1892 in Lodi ; † June 19, 1940 at Lainate ) was an Italian racing car driver .
Career
Marinoni began working as a mechanic for the factory team of the Milan-based car manufacturer Alfa Romeo after the First World War . He later became co-pilot of Giuseppe Campari , who was the same age and also came from Lodi. Campari he won for example Alfa Romeo P2 at the French Grand Prix in 1924 at the Circuit de Lyon .
In 1927 , Marinoni won the Coppa Ciano in the sports prototype class behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 6C . Between 1928 and 1930 he was successful for Alfa Romeo alongside Boris Iwanowski , Robert Benoist and Pietro Ghersi three times in a row at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in Belgium . Marinoni also competed in the first six Mille Miglia editions . He achieved his best results with third place in 1930 and second place in 1931 together with Campari. Also in the AIACR advertised Grand Prix European Championship , he was active for Alfa. For example, together with Baconin Borzacchini and Rudolf Caracciola in an Alfa Romeo Monza, he finished third in the 1932 Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo di Milano in Monza .
From 1934 to 1938 Attilio Marinoni served as chief mechanic and test and reserve driver for the Scuderia Ferrari of Enzo Ferrari active. His best results in the European Grand Prix were fourth at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps in 1935 and the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in 1935 , both of which he drove in an Alfa Romeo Tipo B / P3 .
Marinoni later returned to Alfa Romeo and became chief test driver. He had a fatal accident on June 19, 1940 at the age of 48 during a test drive. Marinoni had been with one of the Alfa Romeo Tipo 158 , which was equipped with a new De-Dion rear axle from a Tipo 512 , on the Autostrada A8 between Milan and Varese near Lainate - test drives on public roads were common at the time - as he crashed his car into a truck . The Tipo 158 was badly damaged and went up in flames, Marinoni was dead on the spot. Consalvo Sanesi took over his post at Alfa Romeo .
