Consalvo Sanesi was associated with Alfa Romeo throughout his career . He was employed there as a test driver ("collaudatore"), but also drove for a long time in races. His success began after the Second World War : He came third in the Italian Grand Prix in 1947 and second in the French Grand Prix in 1948 .
He competed in sports car races until the mid-1960s . After a serious racing accident in 1964, he limited himself to his work as head of test driving at Alfa Romeo and no longer competed in races.
It was Sanesi to whom the Alfa Romeo Alfetta owes its chassis construction. In driving tests at the beginning of the development of this vehicle, Sanesi had insisted on a chassis with a DeDion rear axle because, in his opinion, this offered the best driving behavior. Since Sanesi's word had great weight in the company, it was obeyed.
