Henri Stoffel (born June 2, 1883 in Pont-d'Ain , † October 16, 1972 in Royan ) was a French racing driver .

Career

Henri Stoffel was one of the group of racing drivers who competed in the first Le Mans 24-hour race in motorsport history in 1923 . He drove a Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6 and retired after a defect. The French competed eight times at Le Mans, five times he made it onto the top three podium in the overall standings, but he never won the race. In 1924  - with Édouard Brisson in a Lorraine-Dietrich B3-6, in 1931  - with Boris Iwanowski in a Mercedes-Benz SSK  - and in 1935  - with Pierre Louis-Dreyfus in an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300  - he came second overall. In 1928 and 1937, at his last appearance, he was third each.

Stoffel was also active as a team owner. He also owned a Mercedes-Benz SSK, which he used in various sports car races in the 1930s. In 1932 the Foucret brothers drove it in the Le Mans race.

Stoffel died in Royan on the Bay of Biscay in 1972 at the age of 89 .
