Christopher James "Chris" Buncombe (born May 5, 1979 in Taunton ) is a British automobile racing driver .

Career

Chris Buncombe began his karting career in 1993 . His team-mate at the time, Jenson Button , later made a career in Formula 1 . After two years in the English kart championship, Buncombe switched to the national Formula Renault championship in 1997 , in which he was never really able to assert himself. A tenth place overall in 2001 marked his most successful year in this series.

Buncombe is far more successful in sports cars. He drove a Nissan Primera in the English Touring Car Championship and made a guest appearance in the European Touring Car Championship in Spa in 2002 , which he finished in twelfth place in the second race. In 2002 he also competed in the NNS Sportcars series (an English racing series for sports car prototypes - comparable to the V8 Star in Germany) on a Chiron 003 prototype. He started from pole position four times and scored three wins.

In 2005 he drove a full season in the FIA GT Championship on a Maserati MC12 . Best results: rank. 4 in Monza , rank. 5 in Imola and a sixth place in the race in Brno . In 2007 he moved to Binnie Motorsport in the European Le Mans Series . Together with William Binnie and Allen Timpany , Buncombe drove five of the six championship runs. His best result was an LMP2 podium at Monza. Binnie Motorsport also competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2007 . He finished his first start in the French endurance race with a class win in LMP2 in 18th place overall.

In 2008 Buncombe received a cockpit for the winter season of the Speedcar Series , but drove only in four of the ten championship races. He then returned to the Le Mans Series at the end of the 2009 season. He, Miguel Ramos and Stuart Hall would win the championship in favor of the Aston Martin factory team in the last two races . In the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring , he finished with his team on the podium and as his best result in the series.
