Silverstone 1000km 2007 race

The 2007 Silverstone 1000 km race , also known as the 1000 Kilometers of Silverstone , took place on September 16 at the Silverstone Circuit and was the fifth round of the Le Mans Series this year.

The race

The Silverstone 1000 km race on the Silverstone Circuit, near the city of Northampton , covered a distance of 195 laps of 5.141 kilometers, a total of 1002.495 kilometers. The two Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs had established themselves as superior Le Mans prototypes in the championship races that had already been completed .

With a time of 1: 31.692 minutes, Nicolas Minassian took pole position , followed by his team-mate Pedro Lamy , who completed the front row for Peugeot. The two Peugeots were able to immediately convert their starting position into a lead and quickly put a large gap between themselves and the rest of the field. While the car with the number 7 had a problem-free race, the difficulties with the second Peugeot began at the halfway point of the race. After a puncture in the front right, Pedro Lamy had to drive almost a full lap on the rim to reach the pit lane. When driving with the disintegrating tire, the front end of the vehicle was so badly damaged that the lights went out. The car was put back on the track after a tire change and Stéphane Sarrazin drove up to second place in the overall standings. Since, according to the regulations, the car lighting had to be fully functional at all times, the race management ordered the car to be checked in the pits a few laps before the end because only the left front light was on on the Peugeot. Since the mechanics could not repair the defective light at short notice, the car was taken out of the race and subsequently disqualified by the race management.

The race ended with the victory of Gené and Minassian in the number 7 Peugeot. The lead over the second-placed Pescarolo Sport 07 of Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Christophe Boullion, who was registered by Henri Pescarolo , was two laps at the finish.
