Monza 1000 km race 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 36th 1000 km race of Monza , also 1000 km di Monza, Le Mans Series, Monza , took place on April 15, 2007 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and was the first championship run of the Le Mans Series of that year.

The race

The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP made its racing debut in Monza . The two prototypes, powered by a 5.5-liter V12 diesel engine, were driven by Marc Gené , Nicolas Minassian , Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin . Nicolas Minassian achieved pole position in the Peugeot in qualifying in a time of 1: 34.503 minutes, ahead of team-mate Stéphane Sarrazin. In the LMP2 class, Angel Burgueño placed his Lola B05 / 40 in 10th overall position. Among the GT1 cars, the ORECA team achieved the fastest time with 1: 45.443 minutes. Richard Lietz was able to set the best time in the GT2 for IMSA Performance Matmut, with 1: 50.381 minutes that was enough for 28th place overall.

In the race, the two Peugeots were able to break away from the rest of the field, the closest pursuers to Pedro Lamy and Marc Gené were Jean-Christophe Boullion in the Pescarolo Sport 07 from the team of Henri Pescarolo and Stefan Mücke in the Lola B07 / 17 from Charouz Racing. Before the two-hour mark, Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin's Peugeot ran into technical problems and lost four laps in the pits. While the first two places had now been taken by the driver duo Nicolas Minassian / Marc Gené and Emmanuel Collard / Jean-Christophe Boullion, the second Peugeot overtook one opponent after the other and was able to move up to third place by the time it crossed the finish line, having meanwhile been overall 10 had fallen back.
