Silverstone 6 Hours 2018

The seventh 6-hour race of Silverstone , also 6 Hours of Silverstone and RAC Tourist Trophy 2018 , took place on August 19, 2018 at the Silverstone Circuit and was the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship 2018/19 .
Before the race
With 34 vehicles on the entry list, there were three fewer vehicles than in the first regular round of the World Endurance Championship in Spa-Francorchamps. After a disappointing run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ginetta announced that it would change the engine partner of the Ginetta G60-LT-P1. According to the regulations, engine changes must be registered with the FIA one month before the next race. The manufacturer missed this deadline, which is why the CEFC TRSM Racing team was unable to take part in Silverstone.
In the first free practice session, Bruno Senna had a serious accident after just under half an hour. He lost the rear of his Rebellion R13 in the Corpse corner and slid into the barrier, Senna himself suffered a fracture in his right foot and was unable to continue participating in the race weekend. The training session was interrupted because of Senna's red flag accident and resumed shortly afterwards. Another interruption occurred when the ENSO CLM P1 / 01 of the ByKolles Racing Team with René Binder caught fire after an oil leak.
The qualifying session started with the qualification of the two GT classes. The best starting position in the professional class was claimed by the Ford GT with the number 66 ahead of the two Aston Martin with the numbers 97 and 95 from Aston Martin Racing. In the amateur class, Jörg Bergmeister achieved the best starting position in the Porsche 911 RSR, ahead of the Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche with the number 77.
The prototype qualification session was briefly interrupted five minutes before the end. Frits van Eerd slipped into the gravel trap with his LMP2 prototype in the last corner before the start and finish. The pole position in the LMP1 class was achieved by Mike Conway in the Toyota in front of the sister car with the number 8; the best private prototype from the top class was provided by SMP Racing with the number 11. In the LMP2 class, the Jackie Chan DC Racing Team came in the best starting positions.
The race
At the start of the race it was hectic between the vehicles, the Ford GT with Olivier Pla collided with the Dragonspeed prototype with the number 31. The Dragonspeed prototype tried to get back on the track, but was hit by the BMW with the number 81 . This accident temporarily pushed him far back in the ranking; in the end he finished in 7th overall position. The BR Engineering BR1, with the no. 17, and the Rebellion, with the no. 3, also touched and got into the asphalt run-off zones , both were able to continue the race.
After the start, the two Toyotas dominated the LMP1 class and drove a safe race among themselves. After almost 65 minutes, Buemi, who had been second up to that point, passed Kobayashi. In this order, the vehicles crossed the finish line after a few duels.
The race of the two Oreca 07s of the Jackie Chan DC Racing Team in the LMP2 class was relatively safe. At the end of the race, both prototypes were 2 laps ahead of the third-placed Alpine A470 driven by Lapierre, Negrão and Thiriet.
In the LMGTE Pro class, Mücke and Pla won the Ford GT in front of the Porsche with Lietz and Bruni at the wheel. In the amateur class, Ried, Andlauer and Campbell crossed the finish line in a Porsche ahead of the Aston Martin with Yoluc, Hankey and Eastwood.
After the race, both Toyota TS050s were disqualified. Metal plates embedded in the underbody had bent too much, as a technical check on both vehicles showed. This moved the Rebellion R13 with Laurent, Menezes and Beche to first place in the overall ranking. It was the first victory of a private team in a race in the endurance world championship. The Porsche 911 RSR with Lietz and Bruni at the wheel was also disqualified; the vehicle exceeded the minimum permissible underbody clearance.
