Alexander "Alex" Davison (born November 3, 1979 in Melbourne ) is an Australian racing car driver .

family

Alex Davison comes from a family of motorsport people. His grandparents Lex and Diana Davison were a well-known motorsport couple in Australia in the 1950s and 1960s. Lex Davison, who won the Australian Grand Prix several times and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1961 , died in a racing accident at Sandown Raceway in February 1965 . Diana Davison was married to the aviator and racing driver Tony Gaze after the death of her husband .

He is the older brother of Will Davison and the cousin of James Davison .

Racing career

After starting out in karting , Davison's monoposto career began in 1998 in Formula Ford . In 1999 he was third behind Greg Ritter and Steve Owen in the Australian Championship . After he couldn't find a cockpit in a monoposto series in his home country, he came to Germany in 2000 and accepted a job with Manthey-Racing . For the racing team from Meuspath he competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and the Porsche Supercup . In 2002 he was sixth in the Supercup (champion Stéphane Ortelli ) and won the championship run as part of the US Grand Prix . He finished eighth in this year's Carrera Cup Germany (champion Marc Lieb ). After returning to Australia, he won the domestic Carrera Cup in 2004 .

From 2008 he drove international GT and sports car races . In addition to engagements in the European and American Le Mans Series , he became a regular starter in the V8 Supercars Series . Ten years after his debut , he made his comeback at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2018 . As a partner of Ben Barker and Mike Wainwright , he came in 41st overall in the Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR .
