geography

The place is on the federal highway 258 , which connects Meuspath with Nürburg in the southwest and Herresbach in the northeast. Other neighboring communities are Herschbroich in the north and Welcherath in the south. The old Nordschleife of the Nürburgring (Green Hell) leads past Meuspath in the north.

Meuspath also includes the Balkhausen, In der Stroth and Krebsbacherhof residential areas .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the early Middle Ages in 1202. The place name is derived from the Middle High German “Muspach” meaning “Sumpfbach”. In the feudal period, the place belonged to the office of Nürburg in the Electorate of Cologne . In Prussian times the place formed together with Drees a municipality belonging to the Kelberg mayor .

The council in Meuspath consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Klaus Dieter Speicher became the local mayor of Meuspath in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office with 89.01% of the votes.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Nürburgring industrial park is located in the northeast of the municipality , and the helicopter landing pad in the southwest .

Thanks to its location near the Nürburgring, branches of numerous car manufacturers have recently settled here, which carry out test drives for new models and prototypes .
