history

The name Harscheid is made up of the two words "haris" and "Scheid". The final syllable “Scheid” comes from “scit” and means “wooded ridge”. Harscheid is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1501. The Cologne Domhof in Schuld owned goods in Harscheid, from which taxes had to be paid. In 1673 it is reported that the Harscheider petitioned the Elector: They wanted to be exempt from taxes because they had been attacked by French troops who had "snatched all the fruits, animals and furniture." The sovereign instructed the Nürburg winery to forego the money. Until 1794, Harscheid belonged to the mayor's office of the four "Honors" of guilt in the Electoral Cologne office of Nürburg.

Harscheid was always a branch of the parish to blame. The chapel dedicated to St. Jodokus and St. Donatus has stood in the village since 1754 . The pastor of Schuld owned a third of the tithe in Harscheid. According to the visitation protocol there were 15 families = 83 souls and 48 communicants in Harscheid in 1830. The chapel was then in good condition. The debtor pastor had to hold a high mass with a sermon on the feast days of the chapel patron.

The students in Harscheid had to attend school in Schuld until 1961 because of the lack of a school building . This situation was ended after the completion of a new school in Harscheid. However, it was dissolved again by the 1971/72 school reform; since then the school in Antweiler has been responsible for primary school children from Harscheid. Most of the other students are registered at Adenauer schools. The former school building in Harscheid served as a holiday home for many years. In 2008 the building went into private ownership and is now used as a private residence.
