Wassenach is a municipality in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Brohltal community , which has its administrative headquarters in Niederzissen . Wassenach is a state-approved resort .
geography
Wassenach is located in the East Eifel north of the Laacher See on a mountain ridge that slopes steadily from south to north. The village includes altitudes between 245 m above sea level. NHN and 320 m above sea level NHN . To the west rises the Veitskopf , where the municipality area with 428 m above sea level. NHN reaches its highest ground point . In terms of nature , it can be assigned to the Laacher Kuppenland , in the west it is part of the Laacher See nature reserve . The residential area Wassenacher Mühle (Degensmühle) belongs to Wassenach .
history
Wassenach was first mentioned in 1138 when the knight Embrico bequeathed his homestead ( Mansum ) in Wassenach ( Waszennaco ) to the Laach monastery for his salvation. Pope Innocent II confirmed this donation. A "Theoduricus de Wassenacho" is documented from 1149. The family of the "Lords of Kolb" was first mentioned around the year 1320, when the first chapel of Wassenach was built. The court of those von Kolb zu Wassenach belonged to the imperial knighthood . A line of those von Kolb was nicknamed "von Wassenach" and was in the possession of this manor for several centuries.

Manfred Sattler (CDU) became local mayor of Wassenach on July 1, 2009. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 85.10%.
Sattler's predecessor Werner Willems did not run again in 2009.

Wassenach has had a partnership with the French municipality of Sommepy-Tahure in the canton of Ville-sur-Tourbe in the Grand Est region since 1993 .

Foundation of the coat of arms: The patron saint of the Catholic parish church in Wassenach is St. Remigius, who, as Bishop of Reims, baptized Clovis, King of the Franks, in 496. Of the wealthy nobility in Wassenach, the Kolb von Wassenach family is the better known. By combining the church emblem and the secular coat of arms, the reference to the patron saint of the community is to be taken into account and the historical past is to be recorded. |
Culture and sights
- The Wassenach castle house, which dominates the center of the Wassenach village, was built in 1772 by the noble von Kolb family. This family gained influence beyond the borders of the village; it was able to maintain its privileged position for generations. Today the castle house houses a collection of old musical instruments. Concerts are also held there.
- The Catholic parish church of St. Remigius in Wassenach was built in 1851. It has a baroque high altar from 1772 and a historic organ from 1854 by the organ builder Ludwig Hünd .
- The Buddhist meditation center with monastery and temple "Wat Buddha Vipassana " of Thai Buddhisten Deutschland e. V., which was opened in May 2009 in a former restaurant in the town center. Monks from Bangkok and Chiang Mai live there and it is open to visitors at any time.
- Natural mineral spring Römerbrunnen . Gases rise in the oval spring basin. The spring water has a high iron content. ⊙
- Natural mineral spring horse fountain . Carbonated drinking water with a dissolved mineral content of 1162 mg / l. ⊙
