history
The current local community of Kirchsahr was first mentioned in a document in the middle of the 10th century as "Sarna in pago Bunnoniensi" (in Bonngau ). The historian Beyer assigned this undated document to the year 948. The local community of Kirchsahr, however, assumes the year 964, which is also possible, and celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1964. The place "Sarne" was named in 1266 as the seat of a parish church or parish in the Ahrgau dean's office in Cologne . The parish belonged to the Münstereifel monastery . In addition to Kirchsahr, the parish of Kirchsahr included the villages of Houverath , Effelsberg , Plittersdorf, Binzenbach, Burgsahr, Härnig and Winnen. In the places mentioned, branches had existed since the 16th century at the latest . Houverath became an independent parish around 1500, Effelsberg in 1694.
From around 1100 the area of Kirchsahr belonged to the county Are and came with this in 1246 to the archbishopric of Cologne , to which it belonged sovereign until the end of the 18th century. In 1794 the place came together with the entire area on the left bank of the Rhine to France and in 1815 to the Kingdom of Prussia .

coat of arms
Blazon : “In the head of the silver shield there is an obliquely left blue wave bar. Above that in the upper right part of the shield a four-armed cross, each with a round opening in the middle. Below in the left part of the silver shield the red bend of a bishop's staff. " | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The blue ribbon symbolizes the Sahrbach, which meanders through Kirchsahr in the direction of Altenahr, where it flows into the Ahr. The black lecture cross with double bars leads back to the 13th to 18th centuries. During this time Kirchsahr belonged to the collegiate monastery of Münstereifel and the Electorate of Cologne. The crook of the bishop's staff is a reference to the patron saint of Kirchsahr, St. Martin . |
The municipality of Kirchsahr has had the coat of arms shown above since August 31, 1984.
