Heckenbach is located in the Eifel . Districts are Beilstein , Blasweiler , Cassel , Frankenau (formerly Hundswinkel ), Fronrath , Niederheckenbach , Oberheckenbach and Watzel .

history

The first written mention of the place Heckenbach goes back to the year 772. A Bertrudis and her son Waningus donated land to the Kesseling monastery.

Only a few archaeological sources have been found for pre-Christian settlement in the area. In contrast, numerous Roman settlement traces have been found in the area around Heckenbach .

In 1938 Nieder- and Oberheckenbach, Beilstein, Blasweiler, Cassel, Fronrath and Watzel were evacuated when the Ahrbrück air force training area was being laid out . Today's local community Heckenbach was established in the early 1960s.

With an area of ​​more than 27 km² and 260 inhabitants, Heckenbach is the second largest in terms of area, but the smallest in terms of population in the Altenahr community. Since the municipality was founded, the population has fluctuated only slightly and is now roughly the same as in 1961.

Municipal council

The municipal council in Heckenbach consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Heinrich Groß became mayor of Heckenbach in June 2014. Since there were no applicants in the direct election on May 26, 2019, the new election of the local mayor was the responsibility of the council. He confirmed Groß on August 22, 2019 for another five years in his office.

Groß's predecessor, Erik Hupperich, had held the post for ten years, but did not take up office again in 2014.
