Fronrath is a district of the local community Heckenbach in the district of Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Fronrath is located in the southern Ahrbergland, part of the Eastern Eifel . The place is a so-called dead end village and can only be reached from the direction of Watzel via the district road 55 . Fronrath bordered to the west by the district of Kesseling .

history

Fronrath was first mentioned in a document dated November 12, 1371 under the name Vronrode . Gerhard von Landskron divided his possessions among his three sons-in-law, Dietrich, Herr zu Schönberg received Heckenbach and Fronrath.

Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the imperial direct rule Königsfeld and was subject to the jurisdiction of the parish of Heckenbach. Most recently, the rulers got rid of the Waldbott von Bassenheim .

Ecclesiastically, the residents of Fronrath were assigned to the Niederheckenbach parish , which until 1802 belonged to the Ahrdekanat in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine . From 1798 to 1814 Fronrath belonged to the French canton of Virneburg in the Rhine-Moselle department .

After the treaties concluded at the Congress of Vienna , the region and with it Fronrath became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . Fronrath in 1816 the newly built under the Prussian administrative district Ahrweiler in Koblenz assigned and belonged to the municipality Niederheckenbach in the mayor's King field . In 1817 there were 117 inhabitants in Fronrath.

Around 1870 Fronrath got a school, in 1905 a water pipe, in 1934 a glider pilot facility was built near Fronrath.

After the First World War , the region was in the French part of the occupied Rhineland from 1919 to 1929 . After the remilitarization of the left-bank areas (1936) was in 1937 by the Wehrmacht begun in this region of Eifel the Air Force training area Ahrbrück to build. Fronrath was one of a total of 12 villages that were cleared for this purpose. The houses, which had been vacant since 1939, were destroyed in bombing exercises. Infrastructure rebuilding and resettlement began in the early 1950s.

Fronrath has been part of the new municipality of Heckenbach since 1960 .

The chapel in Fronrath from 1743, which was destroyed or dilapidated between 1938 and 1945, was dedicated to St. Apollinaris and was not restored when it was repopulated. In 1963 a saint's house with a relief of Mary was built there. In 1987 Fronrath had 27 residents.
