history
It was first mentioned in a document in 975. The files of Barweiler and Kirmutscheid in the Trier diocese archives show that in 975 the Trier archdeacon Wicfried gave the St. Maximin Abbey in Trier a hoof land in "Huffelt". It is a so-called precarious contract , an ecclesiastical right developed since the 6th century to lend land to clergy for their livelihood.
Until a few decades ago there were larger basalt deposits in Hoffeld which were mined. The high-quality columnar basalt was used, among other things, during the construction of the Hindenburg dam between the Schleswig-Holstein mainland and the island of Sylt . Basalt mining was stopped in 1981. From the former basalt mine is a lake emerged from the Fishing Club is leased Hoffeld.

Attractions
- Village museum
- There are many well-preserved half-timbered houses in the village center . The village museum is housed in one of these houses. Before the local community bought the house in the mid-1980s, a family of ten lived there for a long time. The exhibition aims to show how people used to live in a confined space. In front of the museum is a fountain built with columns made of Hoffelder basalt.
- Feye house
- The so-called "Feye-Haus", one of the oldest still preserved quarry stone houses in Hoffeld (according to Backes inscription, built in 1712) was empty for over 30 years. After renovation and remodeling, the building is now used as a restaurant.
- Hoffelder See
- In the former basalt quarry on the Burgkopf above the village there is a small lake with clear water that is not open to the public, is used by a fishing club and is fenced off all around.
- chapel
- It consists of a white-painted brick exposed brickwork with a gable roof in a lattice girder construction, under which a light band made of exposed concrete is installed. The pointed tower rises 10 m above the gable top, with a brass ball attached under a cross point, 12.80 m high. The roof and tower are covered with artificial slate.
- The interior of the chapel measures 14.80 × 11.32 m. The height from the floor to the top of the gable is 10.80 m. On the floor there is a 30 cm high, 3.70 m wide and 7 m long dais on which the high and celebration altars stand. The high altar comes from the old chapel and was renovated by restorer Walter Dick, Wasenbach, before the restoration, whereby old paintings were uncovered on the plinth and door walls of the former sacristy vault. The altar is crowned by the coat of arms of the Adenau Order of St. John. The celebration altar was designed by the sculptor Georg Gehring, Adenau. It is a stone block made of Anröchter dolomite with the dimensions 120 × 90 × 100 cm. The corner designs show a vine leaf with grapes. Wall benches are built into stone cheeks on both long sides. The other benches come from the old chapel.
- You can get into the chapel through vestibules on the south and north sides. The sacristy and toilet are located between the two entrances. In the design of the entrance door to the sacristy, natural stone door frames in arch form and the old wooden door of the old chapel with nails were used. The floor of the interior and the sacristy are made of Anröchter dolomite.
