The Verbandsgemeinde Adenau is an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional authority in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of the association includes the city of Adenau and 36 independent local communities , the administrative seat is in the eponymous city of Adenau.
The administrative area comprises the southwestern part of the Ahrweiler district and extends over parts of the Ahr and Hocheifel. Together with the municipalities of Kelberg , Ulmen and the district of Nohn, it forms the Vulkanische Hocheifel, one of a total of three sub-regions into which the Vulkaneifel is divided. 58% of the area is covered by forest, 30% is used for agriculture and 11% is settlement and traffic areas.

The Verbandsgemeinderat Adenau consists of 28 voluntary council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman.

mayor
Guido Nisius (CDU) has been the mayor of the Adenau community since February 6, 2014. In the direct election on September 22, 2013, he was elected for an eight-year term with a share of 86.03% of the votes. Nisius is the successor to Hermann-Josef Romes (CDU), who did not run again after 16 years in office.
