Honerath is a municipality in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Adenau community .

geography

Honerath lies on an area sloping from south to north into the headwaters of some tributaries of the Leimbach . At the mouth of these brooks, the municipality, which belongs entirely to the "Rhein-Ahr-Eifel" landscape protection area, is around 300  m above sea level. NHN its lowest point on the ground. Landesstraße 10, which runs in an east-west direction and connects with the neighboring municipality of Wirft to the west and Adenau to the east, runs through the village . Other neighboring towns are Rodder and Reifferscheid in the north and Wimbach and Barweiler in the south. The Am Ackerbusch and Donatushof residential areas belong to Honerath .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document, presumably as Hoenhekka in 975. Up to the end of the 18th century Honerath belonged to the Electoral Cologne office of Nürburg .

The council in Honerath consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Stefan Zimmermann is the local mayor of Honerath. Since there was no candidate for the direct election on May 26, 2019, the upcoming election of the mayor was incumbent on the council in accordance with municipal regulations. He confirmed Zimmermann in his office on July 2, 2019.
