Frits van Eerd (born March 25, 1967 in Veghel ) is a Dutch entrepreneur, racing team owner and racing car driver .

Entrepreneur

Frits van Eerd is a member of the Dutch entrepreneurial family van Eerd, which owns the Van Eerd Group . The basis was a food wholesale company founded in 1921 . In the early 1980s, his father, Karel van Eerd , took over the grocer Jumbo , which became the second largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands through acquisitions and consistent branch expansion . Frits van Eerd owns 25% of the company shares. The remaining 75% belong equally to his two sisters and his father.

Racing career

Frits van Eerd came to professional racing through historic motorsport. After initial attempts at Formula Ford in the late 1990s were unsuccessful, he contested races with historic Formula 1 vehicles between 2006 and 2016 . Among other things , he used a Tyrrell 026 , a Benetton B197 and a Minardi PS04B in various international series.

In 2017 he entered the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series with his own racing team . Equipped with sufficient financial means from his own company, he built a professional racing team in a short time. He received support from Jan Lammers , who was at his side as a consultant and driver. Other pilots were Giedo van der Garde Rubens Barrichello and Nyck de Vries . Emergency vehicles were the chassis of the Dallara P217 .

In 2017 he made his driver debut at the Le Mans 24 Hours . Together with Barrichello and Lammers, he reached 13th place in the overall ranking. 2018 finished eleventh overall with Lammers and van der Garde. His best place in the European Le Mans Series was seventh in the 2017 4-hour race at the Red Bull Ring . In the world championship he finished eighth in the 6-hour race of Silverstone 2018 , a race of the FIA World Endurance Championship 2018/19 .
