Marco Sørensen (born September 6, 1990 in Svenstrup ) is a Danish automobile racing driver . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 from 2012 to 2014 . In 2015 he started in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Career

Sørensen made his first experiences in karting at the age of three . From 1998 to 2006 he was finally active in karting. Among other things, he was runner-up in the Danish Junior ICA Kart Championship in 2002 . In 2006 he also made his debut in formula racing and took part in two races of the Danish Formula Ford . In 2007 he took full part in this championship. He won four of twelve races and finished the season in third place overall. In 2008, Sørensen switched to the British Formula Ford. With one win and a total of five podium finishes, he was eighth in the championship. He also took part in 8 of 16 ADAC Formula Masters races this season . He won half of all the races he started and finished the season in fourth place in the championship. In 2009 Sørensen switched to Motopark Academy and competed in two Formula Renault championships. He won a race in the Northern European Formula Renault and was third in the drivers' championship. In the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup he was 15th with a sixth place as the best result. He was also a member of the Renault funding program this season .

After Renault stopped funding, Sørensen switched to the German Formula 3 Cup at Brandl Motorsport in 2010 . He competed on four of the nine race weekends and finished eleventh in the drivers' championship with a third place as the best result. In 2011 Sørensen contested his second season in German Formula 3 for Brandl Motorsport. He competed in eight out of nine events. Sørensen took two wins and was only off the podium in one race. However , he had no chance against the eventual overall winner Richie Stanaway and was runner-up with 126 to 181. He also took part in a Formula 3 Euro Series race weekend as a guest starter. He finished in first place in one race.

2012 Sørensen went for the by Charouz Racing System supervised Lotus team in Formula Renault 3.5 at the start. His teammate became his Formula 3 rival Stanaway, who, however, was injured until the end of the season after the third event. He was replaced by several drivers. Sørensen won a race at Spa-Francorchamps and finished the season in sixth championship place. In 2013 Sørensen contested his second Formula Renault 3.5 season for the Lotus team supervised by Charouz. After a second place in Monte Carlo , he won both races in Spielberg . In the overall standings, Sørensen came in seventh. With 113 to 23 points he prevailed against Marlon Stöckinger within the team . In 2014 , Sørensen moved to Tech 1 Racing within Formula Renault 3.5 , where he was without teammates in most races. With a second place as the best result, he finished twelfth overall. Moreover Sørensen rose for the fifth race weekend of the season of the GP2 series for MP Motorsport one. In his first five races he always came in the points. He achieved his first victory in the sprint race in Sochi . At the end of the season he was eleventh overall. He had scored 47 points of the team's 56 points. He was also a test driver for the Lotus Formula 1 racing team .

In 2015 Sørensen started for Carlin in the GP2 series . After he was still without points after the fourth race weekend, he dissolved his contract and ended his involvement in the series. Moreover stepped Sørensen in 2015 in the GT -Sports for Aston Martin Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) on. Together with Christoffer Nygaard he finished eighth in the GT World Cup.
