Reinher della Torre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reinher della Torre (da Torre) († November 9, 1209 in Chur ) was Bishop of Chur from 1194 until his death .

Life

Reinher, son of Alcherius, came from an Italian noble family, the Milanese patricians Torriani , who had jurisdiction in the Blenio Valley since 1173 . He probably became bishop of Chur in 1194. Reinher, who controlled the Churrätischen Alpine passes, stood on the side of the Hohenstaufen in the succession dispute , but in 1208, after the death of Philip of Swabia , recognized the Guelph Otto IV . In 1209 he gave Otto the bailiwick of the bishopric and in return was exempted from imperial service and military expedition. Although his participation in Otto's journey to Rome in 1209 was mentioned in chronicles, it is not documented.
