The Fire Brigade Decoration (Brandenburg) is a state award of the state of Brandenburg , which was donated on February 15, 1994 by the Brandenburg State Parliament under its then Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe . The award serves to honor merits in the field of fire protection.

Graduation

The fire brigade decoration was donated in three stages, which are:

  • I. grade in silver on ribbon
  • II. Level in gold on ribbon and as
  • III. Level in gold: as a special level.

Award requirements

In principle, the fire brigade decoration can be awarded to all members of the voluntary fire brigades , professional fire brigades , company and plant fire brigades as well as to persons outside the fire brigade service.

Fire Brigade Decoration in Silver

The silver medal is only awarded to fire service members who have performed excellently in the field of fire services. The services must have been provided over a long period of time, at least ten years, which goes far beyond the normal fulfillment of duties.

Fire Department Decoration in Gold

The gold medal of honor is only awarded to fire service members for particularly courageous and determined behavior in fire service operations. This is particularly the case if a fire brigade rescued a person in need under difficult conditions and at risk of his life or averted major damage from him.

Special grade in gold

The honorary badge in its special level is awarded to members of the fire service and other people who have made an outstanding contribution to the fire service and who have made a decisive contribution to the development and consolidation of fire protection.

Awarded to fire brigade members

The honorary badge in its special level can be awarded to fire brigade members who, in addition to the services for the honorary badge in silver, have continuously provided excellent performance in the fire departments over a longer period of time (at least 15 years) that go far beyond the scope of normal duty.

Awarded to other people

People who are not members of the fire brigade can be honored with this special level if, through their personal commitment, they have rendered outstanding services to the fire brigade beyond their normal activities.

What is common to all awards, regardless of the level, is that a strict standard must be applied so that the status and significance of the award is retained. Long-term affiliation and a high level of commitment are not enough.

Proposal and application process

The proposals that should lead to the award of the honorary mark must be submitted via the districts and independent cities. The levels in silver (on the ribbon) and the special level must be coordinated with the responsible district fire chief and the district or city fire brigade association and justified in detail. The Minister of the Interior, however, is responsible for the final and final award / non-award. The proposals for the level in gold (on the ribbon) are to be submitted to the Minister of the Interior two weeks after the assignment has taken place. The associated justification must also be submitted to the minister after a further four weeks. However, these must also be coordinated beforehand with the district fire chief and the district or city fire brigade association. In addition, the Minister of the Interior reserves the right to award the award to deserving fire brigade members or citizens in certain individual cases. For awards to members of the fire brigade and people who are not citizens of the state of Brandenburg, the state fire brigade association must first be a member. The application which should lead to the award of the Fire Brigade Decoration must also contain the following information:

  • a) Indication of which level of honor is awarded,
  • b) Proposer (meaning here the office, municipality, city, district or other bodies authorized to make proposals),
  • c) Name of the professional or volunteer fire brigade,
  • d) name,
  • e) first name,
  • f) date of birth,
  • g) rank,
  • h) service position,
  • i) joining the fire brigade,
  • j) Note on the approval of the district / city fire brigade association,
  • k) Note on the approval of the district fire chief,
  • l) Date of the intended award
  • m) Justification (if necessary)

Authority to award and handover

Authority to award

The Minister of the Interior is responsible for awarding the Fire Brigade Decoration. He can either hand it out himself or choose a person he represents (e.g. mayor or district administrator).

Delivery

With the award of the honorary mark, the entrusted receives a certificate signed by the Minister of the Interior. The honor itself becomes the property of the recipient.

Special considerations

The awards of the decorations in silver on ribbon and the special levels in gold take place in Brandenburg in a limited edition, i. H. The basis for calculating the distribution key is the corresponding reports from the districts and urban districts for the annual statistics of the fire brigades from the previous year. The numerical distribution of the decorations is made as follows:

  • a) for every 1000 members of the deployment, age and honorary department commenced per district and urban district, a fire service badge of honor of the level silver (on the ribbon) or the special level in gold can be awarded annually,
  • b) Under 1000 members of the deployment, age and honor department per district and urban district, two fire brigade decorations of honor of the level silver (on the ribbon) or the special level in gold can be awarded and
  • c) for members of the company and plant fire brigades, a maximum of two fire brigade decorations of honor of the level silver (on the ribbon) or special level in gold are available annually .

This probably unique regulation regarding the "severity of the award" of the honorary mark is unique in the Federal Republic of Germany and underlines the immense importance of this fire service mark of honor.

Withdrawal of honor

If the holder of a fire brigade badge of honor proves to be unworthy of the award due to his later behavior, in particular by committing a dishonorable offense, or if such behavior only becomes known afterwards, the Minister of the Interior can withdraw the badge of honor again. However, well-founded facts must first be present that justify a withdrawal. If this is available, the authority entitled to propose must inform the Minister of the Interior. After hearing the person concerned, the minister then decides. The person concerned must be informed of the decision in writing.

Appearance, texture and way of wearing

The fire brigade decoration consists of a white isosceles enamel cross with the dimensions: 33 (width) × 37 (height) mm. Depending on the grade awarded, with either a silver or gold border. Between the cross parts there are two torches, which are also held in either silver or gold, depending on the level awarded. The same version applies to the stylized flames resting in the upper leg. In the middle of the cross rests the coat of arms of Brandenburg, the Märkische Adler . The back of the cross is smooth and bears the inscription: For excellent service in fire protection . The ribbon medals are worn either with a silver or gold border on a red-white-red ribbon on the left side of the chest, depending on the level awarded, but in their original size only on special occasions. The badge of honor as a cross is worn on the left breast pocket. The medal buckles, which are also awarded, are worn over the inside of the left breast pocket in the following order:

  1. Fire brigade decoration in gold (on ribbon),
  2. Fire brigade decoration in silver (on ribbon),
  3. Decoration of honor for excellent performance in fire protection,
  4. Medal for merits in fire protection and
  5. Medal for loyalty service in the volunteer fire brigade (only in the highest awarded level)
  6. Non-state private awards (e.g. German Fire Brigade Association , State Fire Brigade Association Brandenburg e.V. , District Fire Brigade Association , etc.) in the order in which they are awarded.

Only four awards are carried in a row per order buckle line. If there is a fifth or more, a second line must be created. The highest award must always be displayed in the top row.
