Order of Merit of the Ministry of State Security

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Order of Merit of the State Ministry for State Security was a planned but no longer realized state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which in 1990 might have been donated by the Ministry for State Security by the Council of Ministers of the GDR .

With regard to the classification of the order and its possible classes in a state medal of honor, there is so far only one picture publication that deals with this order. Even in the law gazette of the GDR of 1990 there was no corresponding publication until August 9, 1990, the last day of the publication of law gazette No. 49. Nevertheless, the plans for this order have progressed so far that it has already been produced in small numbers, possibly only for the purpose of embossing samples. The single pieces available in stores are currently trading for around 1800 to 2000 euros.

Since the German reunification , the project of this award became irrelevant.

Appearance and wearing style

The Order of Merit of the MfS is held in bronze and its basic element corresponds to a five-pointed star with an ornament in the space between the tips that shows a radial structure in the middle. In the middle of the order there is a round medallion on a dark red background on which a modified symbol of the state security of the GDR can be seen. These are sword and shield , with the shield divided horizontally showing the flag of the GDR together with the national coat of arms. This medallion is enclosed by a ring. The reverse of the order is not yet known. This medal would be worn on the upper left side of the chest on a horizontally divided black, red and gold pentagonal clasp.
