St. George's Medal

The St. George's Medal was donated on December 15, 1889 by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in memory of his acceptance into the Knightly Order of St. George fifty years earlier.

Appearance

The front of the round gold medal shows the portrait of the founder, turned to the left, in the costume with the inscription LUITPOLD PRINZ-REGENT VON BAYERN . On the reverse you can see St. George on horseback killing the dragon with the inscription IN MEMORY OF DECEMBER 8, 1889 .

Carrying method

The medal was worn on a sky-blue ribbon with light red stripes on the left chest. At the Great Order Buckle, it ranked first above all other Bavarian awards.

Awards

Awards were only given to the participating members of the order who were present at the ceremony on December 8, 1889.
