Commemorative badge for the airship crew

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The commemorative badge for the crew of the airships was donated on August 1, 1920 by Reichswehr Minister Otto Geßler .

There were two versions for airmen of the army and the navy . Upon request, it was awarded to officers , deck officers, NCOs and crews of former airship crews of the active, inactive and on leave status, who had to work for at least one year on operational front airships during the war . This could be waived in the event of injuries or accidents in airship service, imprisonment or very special services .

The oval badge consists of a wreath of laurel leaves (below) and oak leaves (above), is tied around three times at the bottom, covered with a ribbon bow at the top and slightly surmounted by this. In the center is the depiction of an army airship that rests on the side of the wreath.

A naval airship can be seen at the award for naval airship and the image of the German imperial crown above the ribbon.

The award was worn as a pin badge on the left side of the chest.

Since the financial situation of the Weimar Republic did not allow it any other way, those on loan had to have the award made at their own expense.
