The medal for outstanding achievements in the light, food and food industry of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The medal was donated on January 30, 1975 in one step. They were awarded for outstanding performance and many years of meritorious work in this area. However, the maximum number of awards was limited to 200 carriers annually. The medal could only be awarded once to the same person.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm showed a factory in the center of its obverse , with smoking chimneys within a wreath, half of which consisted of two curved ears (above) and half of a gearwheel (below). The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the small state coat of arms of the GDR and the five-line inscription below: FOR / OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE / IN THE LIGHT, FOOD / AND FOOD / INDUSTRY . The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 25 × 12.5 mm wide pink clasp in which a 2.5 mm wide green central stripe was woven vertically.
