The medal for outstanding achievements in the building industry of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The medal was donated on October 5, 1972 in three stages (bronze, silver and gold). They were awarded for outstanding achievements and longstanding membership in the GDR construction industry . However, the maximum number of awards of the three levels was limited, so annually only the:

  • I. grade in gold: 75 medals
  • II. Grade in silver: 150 medals and
  • III. Bronze level: 300 medals

be awarded.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze , silver-plated or gold-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm showed the embossed symbols of modern buildings on its obverse (see also architecture in the German Democratic Republic ) and on the left in front of it the Berlin TV tower . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the small state coat of arms of the GDR on top and below the five-line inscription: FOR / OUTSTANDING / LEISTUNGEN / IMBAUWESEN / DER GDR . The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a 25 × 13 mm wide blue clasp in which two 1 mm wide yellow side stripes were woven vertically, which were 2 mm from the edge.
