Cross for services to the military carrier pigeon

The cross for services to the military pigeon system was donated on December 17, 1917 by the Prussian War Ministry and approved by Kaiser Wilhelm II .

The award was intended to be presented to members of the Association of German Military Carrier Pigeon Breeders' Associations, who had distinguished themselves by delivering pigeons under difficult economic conditions or who had otherwise made a contribution to securing the needs of the front for pigeons .

The decoration is a gray cross made of iron . Oak leaves on the arms of the cross within a border . In the middle of the cross the profile of Kaiser Wilhelm II facing to the right. On the back of the upper arm of the cross a flying pigeon and underneath the five-line inscription FOR MERIT FOR THE MILITARY PIGEON SYSTEM . On the remaining arms of the cross the representation of a trench fight and a soldier who lets a carrier pigeon soar.

The award was worn on a blue ribbon on the left chest.
