Badge of achievement of the border troops of the GDR

The performance badge of the border troops was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in one version on July 12, 1962 and was the successor to the performance badge of the German border police . However, this badge lost its status as a state award on January 1, 1978. It was awarded for exemplary performance in training and for personal protection of the state border of the GDR. It was usually awarded at the end of a training phase or immediately after the excellent performance on which it was based. The award was also possible to the volunteers of the border troops , who in addition to the badge of achievement received a miniature, which, however, was not broken.

Appearance and wearing style

The shape, quality and appearance of the badge correspond exactly to the badge of the German Border Police of the 2nd form, it was adopted unchanged. The now round brass-colored badge with a diameter of 35 mm shows a border post of the GDR with a state coat of arms and a PPSch-41 in front of it . The badge of achievement is enclosed and at the same time limited by two laurel branches that touch the tips at the top. The inscription: FOR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE can be read on these points . As with the first form, the back shows a vertically soldered needle. The badge was worn on the upper right side of the chest.
