The badge of honor for merits in socialist military education was a non-state award of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in three stages on July 7, 1975 with the order number 030/9/001 by the Minister for National Defense Heinz Hoffmann .

Award terms

The badge of honor could be awarded to all volunteers who have exemplary achievements and results in the field

could show. The first awards took place on March 1, 1976 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the NVA.

Appearance and wearing style

The badge of honor is almost round with flattened poles, 23 mm high and wide and is made of non-ferrous metal . It shows a machine gun in the middle on a red background, which is held by a closed hand. Above it is a crown-like structure with a volume on it that reads : FÜR MERDIENSTE . The lower edge of the medal is also formed by a tape with the two-line inscription: IN DER SOCIALISTISCHEN DEFENSE EDUCATION . The edges of the badge form two double-row oak leaves with six leaves on each side. The badge of honor was worn on the right breast pocket of the uniform next to or under state decorations that had already been awarded.
