It also served to promote the feeling of togetherness among the retired soldiers. It was first awarded on March 1, 1966 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the NVA. The award took place

  • in the bronze level : for 18-month-olds to 2-year-olds

Appearance and wearing style

The reservist badge came in two forms. The first, which was awarded from 1966 to 1968, was in the form of an 18 mm high and 17 mm wide shield-shaped pin, centered on a bronze, silver or gold background showing a soldier's head looking to the left. There is a GDR flag below the head. The badge is framed and at the same time limited by the inscription: FÜR DEN SCHUTZ (above) DER ARBEITER U. FAUERNMACHT (below).

With the order number 17/68 from the deputy minister and head of the main political administration on October 8, 1968, the award of the pin that had been awarded to date was replaced by a medal with a diameter of 36 mm . The reservists who had already resigned at that time were subsequently given the new form in the assigned level. The medal is made of non-ferrous metal or sheet steel and hangs on a clasp. On her obverse, it shows the head of an NVA soldier looking to the left, as seen from the observer. Below there are two crossed oak leaves, which are held together in the middle by an acorn. The left branch ends with the inscription: RESERVIST OF THE NATIONAL PEOPLE'S ARMY . The reverse , on the other hand, shows the GDR's national coat of arms in the middle, surrounded by the inscription: FOR THE PROTECTION (above) OF WORKERS AND FARMERS . This inscription is surrounded by two curved laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom. The corresponding clasp is 24 mm high, 35 mm wide and consists of two triangles lying on top of each other, which are held in the colors black, red and gold. The central red triangle is bordered by two oak leaves and also shows the GDR's national coat of arms in its center and the abbreviation for the National People's Army ( NVA) below . Laurel branches, national coats of arms and writing correspond to the color of the awarded level.

The medal has been worn since 1968 as a non-governmental decoration on the right side of the chest of the uniform, either to the right of or under the state decorations.
