Badge for the 10th anniversary of the NVA

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The badge for the 10th anniversary of the NVA was a non-governmental award of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated by the Minister for National Defense Heinz Hoffmann on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the NVA in 1966 .

Appearance

The silver-plated medal- shaped badge, which was available in six well-known variants, shows a closed round laurel wreath, in the upper middle of which three fields can be seen, which are laid out in black, red and gold. The state coat of arms of the GDR is framed in the red middle field. Inside the laurel wreath is the four-line inscription: 10 YEARS / NATIONALE / PEOPLE'S ARMY / 1956-1966 . Above the laurel wreath, there are two hanging devices on which

  • a MiG-21 for members of the air force
  • a troop transport for members of the land forces
  • for members of the armored forces a T-54
  • a rocket ship for members of the Volksmarine
  • for members of the missile forces a short-range missile as well
  • For members of rocket technology, a rocket transporter with a short-range missile attached

were chosen to hang the medal on.

Carrying method

The badges issued for this occasion were allowed to be worn on the left breast pocket ten days before and on the day in question. The prerequisite for this was that the badge was intended to be worn at all, since there were also non-wearable ones. After the celebrations, the badge had to be removed, but remained in the possession of the borrower.
