The honorary title of Honored Member of the Border Troops of the German Democratic Republic was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal. The title was donated on November 14, 1975. It was bestowed on members of the border troops of the GDR who served to protect the state border. The maximum number of awards was limited to five honorary titles per year and could only be awarded once to the same person.

Appearance

The gold-plated medal with a diameter of 35 mm shows on its obverse the large state coat of arms of the GDR (diameter 14.5 mm) on a green background. Around the coat of arms is the inscription: FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS AND FARMING POWER . The subsequent edge of the medal is covered by a large golden laurel wreath on which two crossed daggers are placed below . The reverse of the medal shows the five-line inscription: MERIT / RELATED / DER / GRENZROUPPEN / DER DDR .

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a pentagonal clasp with a silver-gray coated ribbon and a gold laurel group. Two vertical green stripes are woven into the tape itself, the outer one 0.5 mm wide and the inner 2 mm wide. The distance from the hem is 3 mm to the first inner strip, with the second strip then continuing 0.5 mm. The interim clasp is of the same quality and also shows the gold laurel group in the middle as a miniature.
