The honorary title of Outstanding Young Activist was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal by the FDJ leadership. The award was donated on April 28, 1960. The award was given to people up to the age of 26 for outstanding performance in the competition and for an exemplary appearance on all sides. Initially, the maximum number of awards was set at 100, and from 1978 onwards, 300 awards a year. The honorary title included a medal, a certificate as well as a material or monetary bonus. Appearance and wearing style

1. Form

The badge, awarded from 1960 to 1962, has the shape of a rhombus , is 29 mm wide and 21 mm high. Its surface is enamelled blue and shows two smoking chimneys and the inscription: EXCELLENT YOUNG ACTIVIST . The state coat of arms of the GDR was shown at the top left. The medal was worn on a semicircular blue enameled clasp. The lower edge consists of two crossed laurel branches. In the center was a 4.5 mm wide black, red and gold central stripe, also enamelled in color.

2. shape

The second form, awarded from 1963, has the shape of a silver-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm. The obverse shows in the middle a silver medallion with a deeply embossed hammer and compass , in front of two ears of corn. The outer writing ring is light blue and shows the inscription: OUTSTANDING YOUNG ACTIVIST . The reverse of the medal shows the three-line inscription: GERMAN / DEMOKRATISCHE / REPUBLIK between two small hexagonal stars. The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a light blue interim clasp which is 25 mm wide and 11 mm high. Three vertical black, red and gold stripes, each 3 mm wide, each 5 mm apart, are woven into the ribbon. From 1976 the strips were then 5 mm wide and 4 mm apart.
